Designing a Dream Home in San Ramon: Complete Remodel Plan with Permit Package

Our team recently completed a full-scope design project for a couple who had just purchased a new home in San Ramon, California. The original property featured a charming Southern-style layout and a beautiful backyard, but the interior finishes were outdated and didn’t meet the needs of the new homeowners.
Client Goals and Design Requirements:
Kitchen: The wife, a passionate cook, wanted a more spacious and functional kitchen with a cleaner, minimalist aesthetic. She requested fewer upper cabinets and a large island to encourage interaction while entertaining guests.
Backyard Access: The couple wanted to create a new entry point from the main living room to their scenic backyard, enhancing indoor-outdoor flow.

Bar Area: To make entertaining easier, they asked for a stylish bar area located near the formal living room.

Breakfast Nook: A cozy space was designed for casual family meals and morning coffee chats.
TV Room: An accent wall was added to the TV room to create a visual focal point and elevate the overall design.

Primary Bathroom: The owners envisioned a complete makeover for their primary bathroom with a fresh, updated look.
Our Solution:
​Based on the clients’ needs, our solution focused on creating a functional and welcoming home that balanced modern aesthetics with the charm of the existing structure. We reimagined the layout to open up key areas like the kitchen and living room, introduced a new backyard entrance for better flow, and added dedicated spaces such as a breakfast nook and bar for family gatherings and entertaining. Thoughtful material selections and bright finishes tied the whole design together, resulting in a cohesive and refreshed home tailored to their lifestyle.
Key improvements included the following:

Kitchen Redesign:

Created a completely new layout

Reduced upper cabinets and added open shelving for a minimal, airy look

Reoriented and extended the island to 7 feet to improve flow and encourage interaction
Improved Backyard Access:

Replaced two existing windows with a 6-foot French door

Enhanced natural light and created easier indoor-outdoor connection
New Dry Bar:

Converted an unused nook near the dining area into a stylish dry bar

Replaced the built-in tub with a standalone bathtub in a new location

Removed the shower wall and installed a glass enclosure to make the space feel larger and brighter

Walk-In Closet Improvement:
